JASSA Scholarship

Due to the generosity of Corporate Donors and Sponsors, JASSA is pleased to present the College Scholarship Program.

The purpose of this scholarship is to promote mutual understanding of the cultures, business environments and people of the United States and Japan. Further, its purpose is to help strengthen the relationship between San Antonio and its Japanese sister city, Kumomoto, Japan.

A recipient is expected to maintain high standards of achievement while serving as a bridge of understanding and friendship between the peoples of the United States and Japan.

Criteria: Applicant must be a US citizen. Selection of a candidate for the scholarship is to be based solely on the qualification of the applicant without regard for economic status, age, sex, race or religion. Proficiency in the Japanese language is not a requirement if applicant can show that courses of study can be done in English. Applicant must have completed at least 60 college credit hours.

The scholarship may be awarded for study at any San Antonio college or university or for study in Japan. The subject area of study should lead to the student developing a foundation for promoting a stronger relationship between the United States and Japan. Recipient must be willing to participate in and support local activities of JASSA.

Scholarship Award: The awardees will receive a one-year scholarship, in the amount of  $1,000. Recipients are permitted to reapply for a second scholarship. The JASSA scholarship committee will make the final selection of the recipients. The award will be made in one payment to the recipient. All the applicants will be notified of the decision.

Selection Criteria:  All JASSA scholarship applications will be reviewed by the committee based on the following criteria:

  1. Applicant's academic qualifications based upon grade point average and the relevancy of courses taken toward area of study
  2. Applicant's academic and career goals
  3. Recommendations from two college/university professors

Applications must be postmarked by March 1.
